چکیده

Commercial wheat straw soda lignin was used to develop an alkali-O2 oxidation method to produce a ready-to-use solution for concrete plasticizing (cement dispersing). Lignin characterization was done directly from the solution. Depending on conditions, oxidation primarily induced either condensation or degradation of lignin. Thus, both the negative charge and the molar mass of the lignin were controlled by the oxidation parameters, and especially by pH. The oxidized lignins were evaluated for their plasticizing performance in cement pastes, mortar, and concrete. Also, their effect on cement hydration was followed and several other properties of fresh and matured concrete were tested. A commercial lignosulfonate and petroleum-based superplasticizers were used as reference products. The results indicated that alkali-O2 oxidation at moderately high lignin dry solids is a promising method to produce a novel bio-based concrete plasticizer. The oxidized lignins were superior to the lignosulfonate and showed good performance in comparison to the superplasticizers. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Catalytic Depolymerization of Alkali Lignin in Sub- and Super-critical Ethanol

The effects of reaction parameters on catalytic depolymerization of alkali lignin in suband super-critical ethanol were investigated using a high pressure autoclave, and the liquid oil and solid char products were characterized. The experimental data indicated that Rh catalysis, controlling reaction conditions at ethanol critical temperature (240 oC) and pressure (7.0 MPa), high ethanol/water r...

Analysis of Structural Changes of Masson Pine Lignin Reacted with Superoxide Anion Radical Using Nmr Spectroscopy

Oxygen delignification can be considered to be the most important part of TCF and ECF bleaching sequences because it allows for cleaner production of pulp. During the process, oxygen gets one electron from lignin in the alkaline condition to form some active oxygen species (AOS), including a superoxide anion radical (O2-•), which is crucial for lignin degradation without damage of carbohydrates...

Enzyme-treated Wheat Straw-based PVOH Bio- composites: Development and Characterization

Valorization of lignocellulosic waste residues in the development of potential biodegradable composites has been of recent research interest. Recent research has shown that wheat straw can be used as a reinforcement material for the synthesis of novel polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH)based composites. However, certain pretreatment methodology needs to be used for the selective removal of the lignin comp...

Oxidation and Sulfomethylation of Alkali- Extracted Lignin from Corn Stalk

A lignosulfonate was prepared from alkali-extracted corn stalk lignin (AEL) by oxidation under mild conditions and sulfomethylation. The oxidized AEL exhibited lower molecular weight, narrower molecular weight distribution, and higher phenolic hydroxyl content than AEL, demonstrating that oxidized AEL was more reactive than those before oxidation. The content of sulfonic groups was significantl...

Impact of Oxygen-Reinforced Alkali Extraction on Eucalyptus Sulfate Pulp for Viscose Fiber Production

Some pulp mills expect to produce viscose fiber by means of pre-existing pulp production lines as used for conventional kraft pulp having a relatively high content of hemicellulose. In the present study oxygenreinforced alkali extraction was used to dissolve the oxidized lignin, which increased the content of alpha cellulose and increased the degree of mercerization. This paper considers the in...
